tick, tock, repeat

Two days until liftoff for Rochefort en Accords.  Sandy sent me a neat link to a video (in French… duh) about the festival.  It looks like a lot of fun, and a really nice setup, and i got a chance to see some of the folks I have been corresponding with.

They also have a documentary series about Rochefort en Accords, but I am taking a pass on those because I don’t want to have too much of a preconception of the festival.  I’ll watch them when I get back…

So far the majority of my prep has been learning a dozen of Moris Tepper‘s songs, which has been a blast.  Learning new material, and challenging myself to learn parts in styles that I don’t have a natural feel for, is a major attraction of this kind of work.  I’ve had two years of just “gripping it and ripping it” with Mayhem Circus Electric, and this is a good change of pace.  As well, the way my ear developed working with NHIC/MCE is obvious to me on some of the pieces where the bass part is not well defined.

If nothing else, prepping for Tepper’s set has made me feel better about my ability to play Beefheart bass parts!  That is another ball of wax…  I actually listened to a few live recordings of Doctor Dark, which I hadn’t done in about 5 years, and I feel pretty good about it.  The band had plenty of rough edges, but when it was on, it was VERY ON.

back to the dootcave…
